IEP Awards / contest rules

Qualifications

Fellows may submit a maximum of 3 case presentations.

To be selected as one of the top 5 presentations:

  • You must be a current Fellow (Total Joint).
  • You must be a member of the IEP.
  • You must submit your case presentation(s) in the required format by December 15, 2010.
  • You must have completed all the IEP Product Surveys by December 1, 2010.
  • You must attend the Annual Users' Conference to be eligible to receive any award.

General Guidelines

Case presentations must not have been previously published with the exception of self-published material. Entries not conforming to contest rules will not be eligible for the competition. Submit text only in a readable font, such as Times Roman or Arial.

Judging Criteria

Each Case Presentation must focus on the educational value of the case and address the following:

  1. Why is the case significant to your Fellowship education and development as a spine surgeon?
  2. How does the case fit into your decision-making process for surgical indications and technical considerations?
  3. How will this case influence your future care of similar cases? What did you learn from this case?
  4. How does this case relate to currently available evidence?

Judges will weight the submissions based on:

  • Presentation - 75%
  • Actual Case - 25%

All decisions will be final.

Submission Requirements

Fellows may submit multiple case presentations.

Each case presentation must include:

  • Patient History
  • Pertinent Physical Exam Findings *
  • Pertinent Lab and Imaging Findings *
  • Differential Diagnosis
  • Treatment Options
  • Selected Treatment
  • Discussion: Summary of case, significance, and educational value of case

* Please include all relevant images with your submission.

Note: Please ensure all patient identifiable data is removed from your submission per the HIPAA Guidelines.
